An active South Pacific Convergence Zone with associated strong winds and rain band affects Fiji. |

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS RECORDED 14 1900hrs-15 0800hrs January 2009:

Heavy rain and strong wind continued to be experienced during the reporting period thus increasing the volume of water in rivers which led to the flooding of certain low lying areas, Nadi, Lautoka and Ba have been experiencing heavy rain and few thunderst |

EVACUATION CENTRES:
|
|
Both, Nadi and Ba switches were temporary restored during the reporting period. The cause of the damages was the Fibre Landslide & sabotage to Ba switch and wet generator to Nadi |

FIJI RED CROSS RESPONSE:
|
|
The Fiji Red Cross have received a local donation of food rations worth $20,000 form Punjas and son’s. DISMAC officials are closed working with the Fiji Red Cross personals in aiding Nation pers that are affected by the current weather station |

|
National Disaster Management Council Meeting (NDMC):
|
|
The NDMC had its first meeting on Thursday 9th April 2009. The Council meets on a quarterly basis and is formed by Permanent Secretaries, Directors of relevant line ministries and our partners representatives from (NGOs). |

EVACUATION DRILL EXERCISE:

|
Today Monday 27th April 2009 MGM High School our pilot school for the School Eartquake Safety Initiative (SESI) carried out the Evacuation Drill for Eathquake, Tsunami and Fire. |
